for the second day in a row we got rain off east flow. it rained at 9pm. 1 inch of rain fell in st pete. dry air coming in back to hot after this…
1.5 inches of rain fell in a beautiful t-storm in St Pete, the air temp cooled to 72 and we shut the a/c off. east flow, breezy and blue skies nice WX for a change. It had ben very hot and dry.
1.5 inches of rain fell during the night in st pete. SW flow brought rain off the gulf. This is the first June rain we’ve had.
IT Rained! After 3 weeks w/o rain things were really drying out. Today St Pete got 1.25 inches of rain as a storm pushed in from the gulf this morning. Everything is greening up now.
After such a rainy winter we are finally in need of our sprinkler systems. Ten days after the Sunday night electrical storm all the benefit form the 2 inches of rain we got is drying up.
2 inches of rain fell in a strong downpour. An electrical storm woke us up at 1am. Incredible power with this late season storm that came off the gulf. everything is very green and lush.
This week we have found so many dead palms! Palms we thought would make it are now dying. By far the worst affected are adonidia’s(Christmas palms).
It seems now that they are starting to grow they are getting infested with fungus that rots their hearts. If the shaft is not green and the palm is not growing give the middle shaft that is coming out of the heart a little tug. If it’s loose your palm is dead. Many will just pull out all rotted and they give off a disgusting smell. This is so sad. Specimens that we cultivated for years are now rotting and dying since the WX is warm. If the heart rots the best thing is to dig it out or cut the palm down. So far in my lawn I have lost 1 Christmas, 1 coconut and 1 big beautiful bottle palm. Breaks my heart. I think I will plant more hardy specimens like robellinis in the future. Tropical palms will all eventually get blasted by cold here, if not next year then sometime in the future. That was the coldest Florida winter ever. The coldest it got at my house was 30 but it was sustained and night after night of 37 and frost for two months and now that it’s warm the damage from fungus is getting worse by the day. If you need your palms replaced please give us a call at 727 455 0078.
